Black Dog Tactical Owner, Darin Mowery:
Darin Mowery is from Phoenix AZ and has a Justice Studies degree from Arizona State University. Darin is a graduate of the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy (ALEA) now known as the Phoenix Regional Police Academy. Darin served his entire career with the City of Tempe Police Department, located in Tempe, AZ. Darin worked in the following assignments: Patrol, Bike Squad, Gang Unit, Recruit Training Officer, Training Officer.
Darin has vast experience in defensive tactics starting with his ancillary duties as a Defensive Tactics instructor at the ALEA Academy, along with thousands of teaching hours as a DT Instructor. Darin is a certified instructor in Defensive Tactics-Impact Weapons, Taser, High-Risk Vehicle Stops, Physical Fitness, Mobile Field Force, and General Instructor. Darin is certified in PPCT, OCCS, Gracie Survival Tactics Levels 1 & 2.
Furthering his experience in defensive tactics, Darin worked three years on the Bike Squad which had enforcement focus in the downtown area of Tempe in the bar district where Arizona State University is located. Due to the large bar district, fights, protests, and other incidents were very common and led to a large number of combative people who would often require a leg restraint.
In addition to his LEO training, Darin is a Black Belt in Ed Parker American Kenpo and a Purple Belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Darin is a certified Jiu-Jitsu instructor with Gracie University under the leadership of Rener Gracie and Ryron Gracie. Darin's law enforcement and Jiu-Jitsu backgrounds have combined in his participation and training in the Gracie Survival Tactics for law enforcement.
Darin Mowery is a highly skilled coach, speaker, and trainer and is available for seminars, staff training, and consulting on defensive tactics and the use of the leg restraints.
Darin is now retired from law enforcement. In May of 2022, Darin opened Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Scottsdale allowing him to continue training kids and adults the art of Jiu-Jitsu.
